About Cofactor

Cofactor is on a mission to reduce the cost of healthcare for all Americans. We deploy boutique automation studios into health systems to launch AI agents and applications that handle administrative work. We’re venture-backed by top investors like Drive Capital and headquartered in Chicago.

The role

Build the software that turns complex healthcare data and AI systems into dependable daily workflows. This role spans user-facing applications, APIs, data processing, authentication, integrations, and the tooling needed to operate them reliably.

‍

What you’ll do

  • Build end-to-end product features. Develop clear interfaces and the services behind them, from work queues and configurable settings to role-based visibility and team-specific workflows.
  • Make complex data trustworthy. Improve claims ingestion, deduplication, backfills, and consolidation; trace missing or incorrect records to structural causes rather than fixing cases one at a time.
  • Build secure, reusable platform components. Work on authentication, permissions, shared client packages, and service boundaries so new features can be added without hardcoded organization-specific behavior.
  • Own production reliability. Add useful traces and processing telemetry, test changes before release, investigate failures across services, and leave enough written context for another engineer to pick up the work.
  • Improve how the team builds. Help develop repeatable development environments and coding workflows while keeping human review, security, and maintainability in the loop.

‍

What we’re looking for

  • Strong frontend and backend engineering fundamentals, including API design, data modeling, and debugging across service boundaries.
  • Judgment about where business logic belongs and how to validate it against real data, not just whether the code runs.
  • A product mindset: simplify confusing interfaces, understand how users actually work, and use feedback to improve adoption.
  • Care with sensitive healthcare data, access controls, and the environments used to develop and test software.
  • Clear collaboration: make architectural decisions reviewable, document handoffs, and communicate fixes in terms colleagues and users can act on.
